Europe is a highly urbanised. Cities are the driving force of Europe’s economy and most of the Europeans are located in the cities. Therefore more and more attention is paid to the sustainable cities and the protection of their environment. The EU is putting a lot of efforts to ensure the sustainability within the modern developments in the cities by different policies and strategies. Our team has worked on several projects in this area.

Urban environment new Strengthening the Capacity of Local and Regional Environmental Authorities to Implement the Environmental Acquis – Development of municipal plans for urban environment. Pilot Municipal programs and training of municipalities – Plovdiv, Vratsa and Blagoevgrad applying the EU experience

The project objective is to improve the ability of local and regional authorities to implement the environmental acquis through support to local authorities in the production of strategic, integrated, action-oriented plans and programmes at local level with a particular focus on urban areas.

The specific objectives of the project are:
• Improved application of the environmental acquis, particularly air, noise, waste and water sectors, in a series of target local authorities
• Improved planning ability and capacity to use a wider and more innovative range of policy tools, and an improved ability to integrate different policy issues to achieve environmental improvements at the local level
• Promote management skills to start up and join participatory and proactive processes, involving all relevant actors/bodies and to drive, adapt and implement local strategic planning.
